Josh Devlin
Josh was hurting after his Time Trial. While he was happy with his position on the starting grid, his back was not happy with him after racing his Manectric, even if it was just three laps around one of his Gym's courses. He had second thoughts about competing, but ultimately this race, the last one of the season, meant way too much to him. He was going to participate, come hell or high water. He also didn't want to waste the rest of the day away. He needed to do something. One of the smaller sponsors of the Silph Cup was a casino and bar in Mossdeep, named Walpurgisnacht. Checking that out would be fun! He could make it a two-day trip and skip practice the day before the big race. Normally he would just ride to Mossdeep on one of his Pokémon, but he couldn't bear to agitate his back any more than it already was. He would take a ferry, and a nice nap, from Mauville Bay to the northern island. Josh let out a yawn once he arrived at the island city, booking a single night's stay at a nearby inn before heading to this bar he had heard about. It was sunset, meaning activity was about to pick up. While the Gym Leader wasn't much of a gambler, there was one casino game he enjoyed, and that was Hold 'Em. Thankfully, many of the details about the casino's poker rooms weren't too far from the cage. The lowest stakes were something he could swallow; there was a 1 PD/2 PD game, with a 4 PD Double Board Bomb Pot once every other orbit. The maximum buy-in was 500 PD, which is what Josh bought in for. It was a lot of money, but certainly an amount he could afford to lose. He carried his racks to the low-stakes poker area, sat down, and greeted the dealer, his saddled Umbreon's rings glowing brightly in the room's dim but reflective, neon-like lighting. "Evening. Leader Josh Devlin," he greeted the dealer, then the competition, as he assembled stacks of white and red chips at a short-handed table. Only five people were in the game, and one looked like he had been playing for a long time, with piles and piles of chips in front of him. It only took him two hands to get a monster, but Josh was not able to extract much value from flopping a set of nines, the action folding around after only a modest bet. He was still in the black, though!
